Message From the President
Daniel J. Mata
Members: We have begun Hispanic Heritage Month as of September 15.  This is our
opportunity to shine as a Hispanic based organization.  I ask that each of you consider
all of the accomplishments of Hispanic Americans and what the United States has
gained from their contributions.  In doing so, also recognize those in your community
who set an example for Hispanics as well as all Americans.  Most of all, you must
recognize those great Hispanics who have contributed to the successes of others.
Those individuals who have set the standards for others to follow.  Although there are
many names of Hispanic leaders that probably come to mind, I would like for you to
take the time to think about those leaders not as well known; our parents,
grandparents, uncles and aunts.  Without those individuals in our lives, we would not be
the success story we are today.
No matter where you are, what part of the country or time zone, you are considered a
success in your own rite.  You are who you are because of someone who believed in
you and wanted the best for you.  All of us, even as adults can remember idioms,
stories or ‘words of wisdom’ that have been bestowed upon us by our family members.
Those phrases stay with us and keep us grounded.  Along with being our strength, our
families also helped us to remember and preserve our culture.  Now it’s up to you to
keep that custom going.
Spend some time with the younger generation and make them aware of what the
Hispanic culture has to offer and how important it is to keep our traditions going.  We,
as Hispanics, are quickly becoming the strongest group of individuals in the United
States, and with that strength we have the opportunity to make changes for ourselves
and for future generations.  That being said, take advantage of this opportunity and
celebrate Hispanic Heritage month with friends and family.
